"C" Battery, 6th Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Group was stationed at FT. Sill, OK. It departed the U.S as one of the only artillery batteries to deploy to Vietnam without the support of the rest of the battalion or supporting artillery group..

On May 6, 1966, C/6/16th received orders for deployment to Vietnam. Most of the men and equipment were transported to FT. Lewis, WA, as an advance party of one officer and four enlisted men proceeded directly to Vietnam and established a base camp at 1st Air Cav headquarters in An Khe (Camp Radcliffe). On June 17th, the main body (2 OFF, 113 EM) arrived in Qui Nhon, under the command of CPT. Joseph Ecoppi..

The misfortunate circumstances and their courageous actions during the Battle for LZ Bird (BR 729809) on December 27, 1966 defined them forever as "The Battlin Bastards of Battery "C".

The history of C/6/16 is forever entwined with that of 1/30 Field Artillery. These pages are dedicated to the honor of those men who served with, and alongside C/6th/16th in Vietnam.
